Flu Vaccine Information for 2009-2010
09/10/2009
For 2009-2010 the Centers for Disease Control (www.cdc.gov/flu) and the American Academy of Pediatrics (www.aap.org) recommend seasonal influenza vaccination for all children ages six months up to their nineteenth birthday. Additionally, a novel H1N1 flu vaccine (www.cdc.gov/h1n1flu) is in production and undergoing testing and should be ready for the public later this fall. The H1N1 vaccine is intended to be used in addition to the seasonal flu vaccine.
We anticipate administering both vaccines at our office but since the H1N1 vaccine is in production and undergoing testing we do not yet know when it will be available at our practice. Please check the Eastover Pediatrics website (www.eastoverpediatrics.com) throughout the fall and winter months for updates regarding vaccine supply and availability.
In order to provide ongoing care for both well and sick children, our practice policy is that flu vaccine will be available by appointment only either in our office during regular hours or at designated "flu vaccine clinics." An additional community resource for the flu vaccine includes the Mecklenburg County Health Department (704-336-6500). For further information please consult Novant Health's comprehensive flu information website (www.noflu.org).
