Frequently Asked Questions
Following is a list of our most frequentl asked questions and the answers.
Presbyterian Gynecologic Oncology is located in the Cancer Center off of Caswell Road. How do I find your suite?
Please start by parking in the Cancer Center parking lot on Caswell Raod at the entrance to the Emergency Department. Go through the main entrance of the Cancer Center and ask the receptionist to guide you to the "F" elevator. Take the elevator to the third floor. As you exit the elevator, go through door to the right and we are directly on the left.
Is there handicap access?
The building is handicap accessible. Special parking spaces are provided for your convenience and are clearly marked.
Why do I always have to give the receptionist my insurance card?
The office needs all of the information found on your card to file your claim properly. If we send specimens or blood outside our office, we must send a copy of your insurance card with the order for the test. Also, at times your insurance company doesn't change, but the group numbers will, so we will always need to copy your current card at every visit.
If I pay my copayment when I check in, why do I have to stop at the cashier desk when I finish with my appointment?
In order to bill your insurance we need to know the diagnosis your physician wrote on the form. If the physician has other instructions, such as referral or return appointments, that will also be indicated on the form, which we can schedule at this time.
What do I do when I have a question for the doctor?
During office hours, call 704-384-8200. The receptionist will ask you for your name, date of birth, social security number, phone number and possibly your pharmacy name and number. Briefly inform the receptionist the reason for your call. Your message along with your medical record will be given promptly to the triage nurse. Non-emergency calls made prior to 4 p.m. will be returned the same day. Calls that require prompt attention will have priority. Emergency calls will be directed immediately to the nurse.
What if I have a question or an urgent problem after hours?
Our after hours answering service prepared to deal with urgent health problems. To connect with the service, call our regular office number 704-384-8200 with your urgent medical question. However, for non-urgent problems, refills, appointments, billing questions, etc., please call the office during regular business hours. The after hour triage nurse will not be able to assist with these routine types of issues.
What if I have an emergency?
Any time your life is in danger, call 911.
Can I have a prescription called in without an office visit?
That would depend on many factors, such as what the medication is, what it is for, whether you had been treated with the medication successfully in the past, or how long it has been since your last visit.
Should I call for my lab results?
If you have not been informed of your lab results, please call after four weeks. This will allow time for the lab results to come back and for the physician to review. It will also allow time for you to receive any letters that already have been sent by your physician or the nurse. Stat results will be reported within 72 hours and any abnormal results will be phoned to you as soon as the office receives them and the physician reviews them.
What if there are certain tests that I do not want billed to my insurance company?
At your request, we can prevent any claim from filing to your insurance. However, since your insurance company will not be responsible, you will be asked to pay at the time of service for any test we do not bill. You need only inform the cashier of your specific requests when you check out.
Sometimes when I have a culture or pap smear done, I have additional charges that are billed at a later date.
This happens when the specimen sent to the lab indicates the need for additional work-up. For example, when a urine culture is performed and pathogenic bacteria are found. The lab may do further testing to identify the species of bacteria and the sensitivities to various medications. Another example is when the pathologist detects the possiblity of HPV (Human Papilloma Virus) on a pap smear. By testing the same pap specimen, the patient does not have to return to the office for another visit to confirm the presence of this pathogen. Your insurance company will receive claims for the additional tests.
