J. Matt McDonald, M.D., FACOG, joins Presbyterian Gynecologic Oncology

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Presbyterian Gynecologic Oncology and Presbyterian Novant Medical Group welcome J. Matt McDonald, M.D., FACOG. Dr. McDonald joins medical director Guilherme H.C. Cantuaria, M.D., Ph.D, FACOG at the practice, located on the Presbyterian Hospital campus at 200 Hawthorne Ln. in Charlotte, on July 15.  

Dr. McDonald is board certified in obstetrics and gynecology and is a fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology.  He has received advanced training on the da Vinci Surgical System and will join Dr. Cantuaria in performing advanced laparoscopic surgeries. He is a former medical director of obstetrics and gynecology at Naval Hospital Charleston and served on the medical staff at Trident Regional Medical Center, also located in Charleston, S.C. Dr. McDonald co-founded the urogynecology department at Naval Hospital Charleston and won a Gold Star Award as physician of the year in women's and children's services at Trident Regional Medical Center.

A Wake Forest University graduate and recipient of a United States Navy Health Professions Scholarship, Dr. McDonald earned a medical degree at Bowman Gray School of Medicine at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, N.C. While at Bowman Gray, he was a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society and received the OB/GYN Merit Award. He completed a residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, N.C., where he was administrative chief resident in his final year, and a fellowship in gynecologic oncology at University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington, Ky.

Presbyterian Gynecologic Oncology provides advanced care to patients with gynecological cancers. Treatment options include radical and laparoscopic surgeries and chemotherapy as well as radiation therapies in partnership with Presbyterian's radiation oncologists. The practice works closely with the Presbyterian Cancer Center, the first designated Community Hospital Comprehensive Cancer Program in North Carolina.
